Store Observation
When browsing at Old Navy over the weekend, not only was I looking around for clothes, I was also checking out the store in general. I have been to other Old Navy stores in different parts of the country and they are set up in a casual way that appeals to the teenage to adult demographic. Inside the store it is bright and a sort of energetic atmopshere. The store plays current music that is popular among the teenage/adult audience. The store caters to a young and hip consumer, which is why the store creates an atmosphere that is suitable for this type of group. The staff, who are also about the same age as the main consumer, were very helpful, well
organized, and were knowledgeable about where certain things were. When trying on clothes, you just tell them which clothes you decided to purchase, and they take the other garments to put away. Basically, Old Navy's in store atmosphere works in attracting customers and influencing their purchase decisions.

Alternative Marketing
1. In the five minute video that I viewed, there were a lot of well known products advertised in eight different recent movies. The video started with a clip from Sex in the City in which the brands Starbucks, Sprint, LG, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel where featured. The next clip took place from the Superman movie, and it showed tow brands Marlboro and Coca Cola. As the video progressed, it showed clips from Casino Royale; the Sony Vaio laptop is featured, Bravia, Ericcson, and the Ford Omega. The next part of the video showed us clips from the Spiderman movie. The movie displayed brands from Dr. Pepper, Charlesberg Beer, Cingular, Prudential, Samsung, and Suntory Whisky. Next, we were introduced to a clip from the movie I Am Legend, and it showed brands from Mustang and Ford. Another clip, which was shown from the movie Transformers, showed Apple iPod, HP, Chevrolet Camero, Porsche, Ebay, Panisonic, and Burger King. Another part of the video shows a clip from the movie Bad Boys 2 and it briefly showed brands from Miller and Ferrari. The last part of the video showed a clip from the movie Iron Man, which displayed the Burger King brand.
2. At the conclusion of the video, I took a look at the list of brands that were viewed and chose which one to critique, so I selected Coca Cola. In the Superman movie it showed a somewhat dated brand of the brand of soda in which it says "Enjoy Coca Cola". The meaning of the product is to to enjoy the product when you first open up a can. It also means that when drinking a can of Coca Cola, just kick back, relax, and savor the taste because it can really calm someone down for the moment.
3. The target group of this product would be anyone who likes the smooth tast of Coca Cola and any other Coke products. Coca Cola's target audience is a wide range, from kids, adults, and to the elderly. This brand of soda has been around since the late 19th century, and many people continue to buy the popular soda. I do not prefer the promoted brand after watching this video because, I already preferred drinking Coca Cola a long time ago. It has been my favorite beverage when I was a kid, and it continues to this day.

Media Diary
For the past two days I haved kept a media diary that tracks all the media that I was exposed to. During this period, there were different types of media that I saw such as, internet ads, television ads, newspaper ads, and ads that show up on my iPhone. Because I stay constantly connected to the campus WiFi network, via my iPhone, there was a lot of media that I had recorded in my diary. Some ads drew my attention and others I just ignored because, either I was not interested or I saw the commercial so many times I practically memorized what the commercial stood for.
One good way that media targets me is advertising the commercials that I find interesting on many of the channels that I watch. Whether on BET, TBS, MTV, or SPIKE these commercials should be aired during the evening, which I am most likely to be watching TV. But most of the time, there is a lot of commercials on each channel, and not very many interest me. During the day however, I do not watch very much TV, but another main media source provides me with just as much advertisement, and that is the Internet. Even though there is no constant commercial advertising online, there are still plenty of ads that show up on my favorite websites. Both Facebook and YouTube in particular are the main websites that have a lot of advertising located online. Facebook features ads on right side of their webpage, generally this is sort of a weak approach to gain attention to the consumer and it generally does not affect my attention, therefore I pretty much ignore them. But when it comes to YouTube, their ads definately get my attention. Whenever I am watching a video, a advertisement scrolls up on the video screen plus there are also ads on the right side as well. Music videos are another story, they integrate song costs from different online music retailers such as: itunes, amazon, and rhapsody. This is a very clever move for the music industry because, many people love to know what songs they are purchasing and how much it cost. When it comes to the internet, I feel that this media source capyures my attention better because, there is definatly enough balance of advertising, and it very creative in gaining the consumer's attention.

Subway Creative Brief
Subway is a major fast food chain restaurant that has a wide variety of sandwiches and other select sides on its menu. The restaurant basically stands out from most fast-food restaurants because it has a healthier choice of food items that give customers nutrition and excellent taste at the same time.
When it comes to the select audience, Subway appeals mainly to people who want to lose weight or want to maintain a healthy weight. Other people choose Subway because, it has great tasting food without all the many fats, cholesterol, and salts. Not only is the menu a good choice for most people, it is also affordable. Not too long ago, Subway introduces its $5 dollar foot longs in which many customers can have the opportunity to add on to their order. For example, a person can add chips, soda, a soft drink, and a cookie with their sandwich.
In order to attract customers, Subway not only advertises their healthy menu, they also include people who have lost weight because of the food they provide. For example, in many of their early commercials, Subway had a spokesman, named Jared Fogle, who talked about how he lost a lot of weight eating their sandwiches. Since then, the fast food chain has also adopted stronger ad campaigns to draw customers. In their latest promotion, Subway has added Olympic gold medalist, Michael Phelps to their advertising.
Even though Subway has gained a lot of success by adopting a healthier menu, it also faces some strong competition. Their are other fast food sandwich restaurants that are attracting large amounts of customers; Quiznos, Blimpie, and Penn Station are some of many who compete with Subway for customers who like healthy sandwiches. Not only are sandwich shops a competitive threat, but other fast food restaurants like McDonalds, Jack in the Box, and Burger King are trying to adopt healthier menus at affordable prices. But Subway pretty much stands out from the competition, because they have better experience when providing a healthy menu selection for their customers.

PBS Frontline Feedback
1. When watching this video, I learned that advertising is not just about the product; its about culture and what the product represents figuratively. I also learned that advertising has taken a huge step since the early 90's. Back during the mid 1950's, there were certain brands that were declared better than others such as the quality of cigarettes, kitchenware, and clothes; basically whatever product stop out from the others. Nowadays, that is no longer so because, basically what the people want is good quality products that they can afford and not really splurge on. Companies also bagan developing cult-brands which attracts many people to not the just the products that it makes, but the company itself.
2. Some main problems that affect advertising is commonity. This is because they are advertising the same products and people are really not having a preference on what name brands to spend on. This is causing many advertising companies to develop ideas on how they could stand out from their competitors and generate more customers. Another problem is ad agencies have problems generating more ideas for their clients. If a certain ad agency cannot develop a type brand or ad for a large company, the company drops the ad agency as well as their hopes of getting paid. Cable companies, as well as Tivo, are a problem too because many cable companies are cutting ads significantly and Tivo cuts all of them completly.
3.We need to be aware of the combination of advertisements with various other media sources such as television shows, and commercials that are advertising not one, but multiple products. Another concern would be, how well is the advertisement going to sell. Ad agencies along with their clients, invest a lot of money into advertising their products; of their ad campaign does not sell well, then all their investments go down the toilet. Convincing the consumer to buy a company's products is another concern. Due to the commonity of many products that possess the same function as others, customers would rather go for what is cheap than what is expensive.

Product Writeup
When I was browsing in Macy's one day, I stumbled on this nice jacket made by Ecko Unlimited. Looking at this nice jacket, five things came to mind: It looks nice, It is made from one of the nicest retail designers, I would look good in the jacket, how much does this jacket cost, and I have got to have it regardless of the price. According to http://www.brandtags.net/browse.php?id=977 i took a look at what other people thought about Ecko products, and the different response matched mine to a certain degree. There was a lot of positive feedback, but some thought that Ecko products represents hip-hop, its ghetto, and it has a lot to do with urban style. Well, I feel that ecko is very diverse when appealing to the consumer. Their style is majority casual outerwear, but it also consists of dresswear with a somewhat classy flair. In my opinion, Ecko designs some of the best clothes next to South Pole, and I will continue to buy their products.

My Favorite Ad.
This is a good advertisement because, it shows the luxury and convienience of flying to many exotic places around the world. This ad is somewhat dated, but in my opinion it works because, back in the early 1970's air travel was somewhat in its infancy, and some people were curious about the many different countries outside their own. This video also shows us to take advantage of going on a nice vacation and take in the cultural atmosphere that any country you are visiting, has to offer. The reason why I like this ad is because, I have a huge interest in airline commercials and it gives me a somewhat in-depth view on how Pan Am works on a daily basis and what it has to offer to the people who want to fly this particular airline over others. Even though it is sort of longer than the average commercial, I feel that the length of the commercial shows people in good detail about what the airline has to offer.
